Cities, Culture and Events

Art City

perugia, Castiglione del Lago, Assisi, Spoleto, Spello… there are numerous small and large Umbrian cities of art, each with its own history and places to tell.

Palaces, basilicas, cathedrals, Roman bridges, archaeological sites: Umbria is a melting pot of history and culture from prehistory to the present day, and has given birth to some of the greatest contemporary and past artists.

From the Umbrian School of Pinturicchio to the Arte Povera of Alberto Burri, from the perspectives of Piero della Francesca to the futurism of Gerardo Doctors, an artist who has dedicated numerous works to the panoramas of Trasimeno, from Stories of St. Francis from Giotto to the Renaissance of Pietro Vannucci, the Perugino, in Umbria there is art for all tastes.

Galleries and Museums

In the immediate vicinity of the farmhouse, do not miss a visit and the climb to the top of the Torre dei Lambardi, the Fishing Museum, the Paleontological Museum of Pietrafitta, the Toy Museum in Perugia, all of which are also interesting for children.

Umbria is in any case home to numerous galleries and museums of great historical and artistic interest: Perugia alone, located 20 minutes from the Agriturismo, hosts two of the most important museums in Central Italy, such as the National Gallery of Umbria, which exhibits works by Perugino and Piero della Francesca, and the National Archaeological Museum of Umbria, with numerous finds from the Etruscan and Roman eras; there are also numerous museums of anthropological interest, representative of the life and traditions of the area, such as the Fishing Museum on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, or the prestigious Wine Museum of Torgiano.

The Regional Museum of Ceramics in Deruta is one of a kind, with a permanent exhibition of ceramic artefacts and works of great historical and artistic value.

Music

Umbria hosts two major international music festivals: Umbria Jazz, in its summer version, takes place in Perugia in July, and Umbria Jazz Winter, which takes place in Orvieto between December and January.
Trasimeno Blues takes place in the summer in various locations on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, just a few minutes' drive from the farmhouse.

The festival's guests are of international caliber, and the whole thing is framed by the fascinating historic centers of Perugia and Orvieto, for Umbria Jazz, by the historic towns on the shores of Lake Trasimeno and by Isola Maggiore, for Trasimeno Blues.

History

From the Umbrians to the Etruscans, from the Romans to the Lombards, from the Municipalities to the Papal State, many are the populations and dominations that have left their mark on the Umbrian territory; the Hypogeum of the Volumni, the ancient Etruscan necropolis at the gates of Perugia, the Rocca Paolina, the sixteenth-century fortress commissioned by Pope Paul III in the centre of Perugia, the suggestive natural islands of the Lake Trasimeno, the Maggiore and the Polvese, reachable in boat, and numerous archaeological sites, are just some of the places of interest in the region, which is full of stories and ancient and modern peoples.
